Daoism inspired Belgian Chocolates from Éléments Chocolats

In Daoist philosophy, the interconnectedness of the 5 elements (五行); Earth, Metal, Water, Wood & Fire govern the natural balance of all things in the universe. Among these, each element correlates with a Daoist life blessing, an influence on our emotional & physical well-being, a representative celestial animal & even the tastes of the food we eat.

Based on their taste & function, all foods are associated with one of the 5 elements. 
The 5 respective elemental tastes being;

– Sweet (甘), Aromatics/Spices (辛), Salty (咸), Sour (酸), Bitter/Spicy (苦/辣)  –

For over 2,500 years, Chinese medicinal nutrition theory believes a balance of foods from each of the 5 elements helps bring balance & harmony to body & mind.

As an additional element which I believe essential to life, I add the 6th element of Love, with the taste of Celebration, as what would the world taste like without love!

As someone who aligns with the principle of Daoism myself and with more than 15 years in China, by blending Belgian chocolate making traditions with selected ingredients from each of the respective elements from across the length & breadth of China, I aim to take you on this one-of-a-kind culinary journey across the plains, jungles, beaches & mountain landscapes of China, as well as embarking you on a modern & historical cultural discovery of where this ancient holistic elemental balance & philosophy originated.
